can you guess which is the favourite dose? ;)

One year further down the OIT path

Another year has flown by... so it's time for my 2025 update.

Well, I am very pleased to say that we have completed another 12 months of OIT maintenance. My wonderful little scientist has been adapting her maintenance dosing brilliantly over the past year [watch my video!], and has learned a couple of things:

size matters!

The size of peanuts in each M&M varies way too much to be trustworthy as 'invisible doses'. Thus they must first be freed of their chocolate shells. Thus the chocolate shells must get half-nibbled first. Thus I get to eat half-nibbled jobbies that got weeded out in the process.

[Frankly I suspect she's nibbling at the chocolate purely because she likes the chocolate.]

[Personally I don't blame her.]

Moral #1: take sensible precautions when it comes to choosing maintenance dose sizes

Moral #2: if you're using M&Ms, buy in bulk!

any old nuts?

Nuts, even stored in small boxes, appear to lose some of their allergic potency relatively quickly. I don't have an official measure of this, beyond the super-sensitivity of my resident scientist's immune system. Suffice to say, we have stopped over-stocking the pots; replenishment happens every month instead.

considered adaptations

I would summarise our approach as 'considered adaptations'. At times it has been tempting to throw in the towel, but with a bit of flexibility and some dedicated problem-solving, we have adapting the weekly regime to find what works best for Abi. My quick vid will tell all!

Lastly - keep in touch. I love to hear all your stories and would love to hear how your journeys into OIT are going.

so far so [mostly] good
